Prototype price versus a production promise

We cut three prototypes at a high unit price because the fixture did not exist. The buyer now wants 200 at the prototype unit price 'since you learned the part.' The prototype price was never a production price.

Say no with a production quote. The prototype price paid for learning, a soft jaw, and three first articles. Two hundred pieces get a fixture, a cycle time, and a new price. Learning is not a perpetual discount.

Show the cycle and the setup in the production quote so the drop makes sense. A lower number with no story looks like the first number was a gouge.

If you want the work, the production price still has to feed the shop. Do not average the prototype pain into a number you resent.
