A steel weldment has three pads that must be coplanar. We shim it, face the pads, and on the bench the pads are out by 0.3 mm. The welds are cold when we cut. The fixture holds the feet.

Welding stress comes out when you cut the pads. Face them, unclamp, reclamp, and skim again, or stress-relieve before the finish if the print is tight. One pass on a fresh weldment is a sketch.

Hold it the way it bolts into the machine it belongs to, if you can. A fixture that twists the feet will machine a flat that only exists in the clamps.

Tell the welder which pads you cut. A later weld 'just to fill a pit' on a finished pad starts the movement again.
