A gray iron bracket job makes a black dust that sits on the ways and on the window sill. Coolant is on. People are wiping machines down with dry rags at the end of the day. Two operators are coughing.

Wet the chip and vacuum with a filter meant for metal dust. Dry rags and compressed air put the same dust in the air you breathe and into the next machine's ways.

Cast iron fines in way oil make a lapping compound. Cover or wash the ways on the machines next to this job, not only the one cutting it.

If the cough is new with this job, treat it as a shop problem: ventilation, wet cutting, and no air guns. Do not wait for a survey to stop blowing the dust.
