A 8 mm drill in 304 made forty holes, then squeals and the holes go undersize. The point still looks sharp. We did not change the feed. The holes are 20 mm deep in plate.

304 hardens if the drill rubs. A point that looks sharp and a hole that goes small means the margin is rubbing or the feed dropped when someone eased the override and left it. Restore a real feed and a peck that gets the chip out before the hole work-hardens.

A drill that has rubbed for a few holes has hardened the next hole's entrance. Spot or start fresh on a new location when you test. Do not judge the new feed on a hole you already glazed.

Coolant in the flute matters more than the brochure rpm. If the flutes are packed, you are rubbing, whatever the screen says.
