A ground fixture plate rocks on the machine table. Both faces were wiped. A 0.02 mm shim slides under one corner. The plate was flat on the surface plate yesterday.

A plate that was flat yesterday and rocks today has a chip, a ding, or it is being pulled down on a high spot by the clamp. Blue it or sweep it with a stone before you shim a production fixture. A shim under one corner makes the next clamp a bend.

Check the table for a raised ding in that corner. Tables grow bumps where vises lived. Stone the bump, do not relieve the fixture to match a scar.

If the plate is thin and the clamps are outside the feet, you are bending it. Move the clamps over the supports.
