A 20 mm ground bar comes out of the collet closer with ring marks every time we feed it. The collet is the size marked on the bar. Pressure is standard. The marks fail a cosmetic note.

A collet that is 'the size' but worn, or a closer pressure set for a roughing grip, will print rings into a ground bar. Drop the pressure for the finish feed, and inspect the collet bore for a step where it has bell-mouthed.

A liner or a collet with a smooth bore for finished stock is the right tool when the print cares about the skin. Serrated collets are for stock you will machine away.

If the mark is only at the feed length, the collet is gripping the same band every time. Offset the grip or protect that band if it is a shown face.
