Smell plus a rash means the tank is tired even if the refractometer looks acceptable. Dump, clean the chip beds and the lines, and recharge at the mix the coolant maker prints, not at whatever is left in the drum.

Tramp oil and fines make a refractometer lie high. Skim the oil and look at the fluid in a jar, not only at the strip.

Sleeves and a barrier cream stop the rash while the tank is being fixed. Do not just add biocide to a dirty sump and keep cutting.
