A spindle probe sets G54 from a bore. Mornings match the bore mic. Afternoons the offset walks about 0.03 mm even though the calibration routine was run Monday. The stylus looks straight.

Check the stylus for a chip welded to the ball and for coolant crust at the thread. An early trigger that grows through the day is often a dirty ball, not a bad calibration file.

Run the calibration ring in the afternoon, not only on Monday morning. If the ring result moved, update it. If the ring is stable and the part is not, the part is hot or the bore has a burr the probe hits first.

A bent stylus that is 'almost straight' triggers early in one direction. Spin it and sweep a ring gauge. One direction being short is the stylus, not the shift.
