X on a vertical mill starts alarm on torque after lunch. The way cover on the right is full of fine chips and coolant mud. We vacuumed yesterday. The wipers look torn.

Torn wipers pump chips under the cover all morning. Replace the wipers and wash the cover track, or the torque alarm will be a scored way by the end of the week.

Fine chips in coolant mud are worse than long chips. They settle where the cover parks. A flush hose into that pocket at the end of the shift is the habit. Vacuuming the table is not the same job.

If the axis is already notchy with the cover lifted, stop and look at the way. Do not keep running because the alarm clears after a restart.
