A 12 mm four-flute carbide mill finishes a 28 mm tall wall in 4140 prehard. Roughing is quiet. The finish pass sings and the wall shows a washboard about every 0.4 mm. Stickout is 35 mm in a sidelock holder.

Drop the radial step to about 0.15 mm and raise the rpm so the tooth pass frequency is not sitting on the wall. A singing finish with a quiet rough is usually the light pass exciting the tool, not the spindle bearing.

35 mm of stickout on a 12 mm tool in a sidelock is a long spring. A shorter holder, or a hydraulic chuck, often kills that washboard without a feed change.

If the pitch of the mark matches the feed per tooth, look at runout before you buy a damper. Two tenths of runout on a finish mill writes a stripe you can see.
