A new setter is crashing the probe on the first approach

The probe routine is in the program and it works for the people who wrote it. A new setter touched the probe to a step jaw last week and again this week. The approach move is a long G0.

The first move toward the part should be a short, slow move from a known clearance, not a G0 from machine home across a jaw. Put a safe start point in the program and on the setup sheet in words: 'probe starts 30 mm above the jaw, left of the stop.'

Let the new setter run the approach in single block with the probe disabled or with a slow override the first time. Speed is how a good routine becomes a crash.

If the jaw can be taller than the clearance, the program is wrong for that jaw. Do not train people to dodge a move that should not be there.
