Steel pins were washed Friday, left in a basket, and Monday they have a haze of rust. The wash is a water-based cleaner. They were dry to the touch.

Water-based wash needs a rust preventative before a weekend, or the parts need to be dry and oiled, not only 'dry to the touch.' A warm basket still holds water in the threads.

Blow the threads and the grooves, then dip or spray the preventative you actually stock, and do not stack wet parts in a closed bin.

If the buyer forbids oil, use their named preventative or ship Friday only when someone will receive them. A clean rusted pin is still scrap.
