Pin gauge entering a hole at an angle

A 6 mm pin enters a drilled hole if you tip it, and will not enter straight. The hole is called a true position to a datum. The operator says the pin fits, so the hole is good.

A pin that only enters at an angle is an oval, a bell-mouth, or a location error. Straight entry is the check. Tipping the pin proves nothing except that the hole is large somewhere.

For true position, a pin fit is not the position. You still need the location to the datum. A hole can accept a pin and be in the wrong place.

If this is a go/no-go hole with no position, straight is still the rule. Write it down so the next shift does not tip the pin.
