A three-foot bracket rocks on the plate. The height gauge reading depends on which corner you press. The print calls a pad height from datum A, and datum A is the three feet.

A part that rocks does not have a datum until you seat it the way the print says. If A is a plane through three feet, you need a fixture or a careful seating, not a hand pressing the convenient corner.

Check for a burr or a high weld on one foot before you chase machining. A rock is often one dirty foot.

Write which foot was high. A height that only exists while a hand pushes is not a rejection and not an acceptance.
