Operators check a 25 mm diameter with calipers and write 25.00. Inspection with a micrometer gets 25.03 and rejects the lot. The tolerance is ±0.02. Both people are sure.

A caliper is the wrong tool for a ±0.02 decision on a diameter. Check with a micrometer that has been zeroed on a standard, at the same place on the part, and use that number. The caliper can screen. It does not ship.

Measure the same part on both tools in front of both people. The argument ends when the standard is on the bench. If the micrometer and the standard disagree, the micrometer is the thing you fix.

Write the tool name next to the number on the traveler. A bare 25.00 from a caliper is how this lot got packed.
